Most Common Connectors (The Plugs)
-
LC (Lucent Connector): It is the smallest and most modern connector (square plastic design with a retention tab). It is the current industry standard in server rooms because its compact size allows for high-density patching.
-
SC (Subscriber Connector): A slightly larger, square plastic connector. It features a push-pull latching mechanism (it clicks into place when pushed). It is very common in home internet wall outlets (ONTs/routers).
-
ST (Straight Tip): A round, metallic connector. It is inserted and twisted like a bayonet mount (similar to a BNC connector or old lightbulbs). It is mostly legacy and found in older installations.
-
FC (Ferrule Connector): Round and metallic, but features a threaded screw-on mechanism. It is highly resistant to vibrations, making it ideal for industrial machinery or laboratory equipment.
