PATCH PANEL

A patch panel (or patch bay) is an interconnection device used in telecommunications networks and structured cabling. Its main function is to organize, manage, and facilitate the connection of network cables (Ethernet, fiber optic, or others) between different equipment such as switches, routers, servers, or end devices.

Functions:

  • Cable organization: Prevents cables from becoming loose or disorganized.

  • Ease of maintenance: Allows changes to connections without manipulating the structured cabling.

  • Scalability: Facilitates the addition or reconfiguration of devices in the network.

  • Protection of structured cabling: Minimizes wear on permanent cables by using patch cords instead.
